Rayburn
The lead instructor for Rayburn Law Enforcement
Training is Michael T. Rayburn. Mike has over
26 + years of experience in the security and law
enforcement fields. He started out as a Military
Police Officer in the United States Army assigned
to what was then called West Germany. While stationed
in West Germany Mike was temporarily assigned
to SHAPE Headquarters in Belgium. This was in
response to the terrorist attack against then
Allied Supreme Commander General Alexander Haig.
After receiving an honorable discharge Mike worked
as a private detective and he worked in the retail
security industry for a number of companies. In
1985 Mike went to work for the U. S. Department
of Justice – Federal Bureau of Prisons as a Federal
Corrections Officer.
In 1986 Mike was hired by the Saratoga Springs
NY Police Department. Although hired as a patrolman
Mike worked undercover for his first six months
on the job. In 1986 Saratoga Springs NY had an
emerging crack cocaine problem and Mike was hired
to try and help resolve some of that problem.
After six months of intensive undercover work
Mike was responsible for making numerous felony
arrests for drug sales and was responsible for
the break up and successful prosecution of a NYC
based organization that was responsible for shipping
large amounts of crack cocaine to Saratoga Springs
NY.
Mike is a NYS certified Police Instructor, NYS
certified Police Firearms Instructor, NYS certified
OC Instructor and a NYS certified Security Guard
and Armed Security Guard Instructor. Mike has
also worked as an instructor for a number of law
enforcement products/training companies and is
currently an adjunct instructor for the Smith
& Wesson Academy teaching firearms to both
law enforcement officers and civilians. He also
teaches vehicle stop tactics at the academy to
law enforcement officers and he is a NRA certified
Instructor in several topics.
Mike is a prolific writer and has written numerous
articles for various police magazines focusing
on the areas of officer survival, vehicle stops
and firearms tactics and training. He is the author
of two books, “Advanced Vehicle Stop Tactics”
and “Advanced Patrol Tactics”. Mike’s video, “Instinctive
Point Shooting with Mike Rayburn” is a top seller
in the law enforcement and combat shooting communities.
He is a recognized expert in the areas of vehicle
stops, officer safety and firearms tactics and
training. Through his many articles, two books
and video Mike has changed the way a number of
law enforcement agencies across the country conduct
their training.
